More than 80 students, parents and church members turned out for LCA’s Welcome Back to School Picnic last Friday evening on the ball field.  After the haystack and watermelon feast and fun on the playground, a sudden thunderstorm encouraged everyone to quickly grab chairs and run into the gym for the song service with Brian Fox and Darryl Bentley.  Pastor Daniel captured the attention of young and old alike as he shared an interactive and inspirational object lesson for vespers.  Rain dampened clothes but not joyful spirits.  Thanks to all who joined us!

No siblings (after last year’s three sets) and two girls (rather than one) bring a new balance to Mrs. Barto’s class of 10, which now includes fourth graders promoted from Mr. Sargeant’s room due to increased enrollment.  Four newbies(*), two students from previous years(+) and two returning students round out the roster:

4th Victoria Beason

Tyler Segarra

5th Caleb Holland*

6th David Barrios*

Amber Brailsford+

7th Redmond Bandy*

Jesse Coulter+

Jimmy Fine

Sydney Pitts

8th Alex Crane*

After three productive weeks, Mrs. Barto could not be happier about her “wonderful” students and feels “privileged to be able to participate in each one of their lives.”  She also credits parents for “their participation, encouragement and support that keeps our school functioning at its best.”

LCA boasts a total of 26 registered students – up two from last year’s number.
How God has blessed!

For parents whose schedules make 3 p.m. pickup a challenge, LCA now offers supervised after-school care until 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 5 p.m. on Fridays.  Apison Church member Laura Byrd coordinates the program to incorporate playtime, worship, crafts, hikes and community service.  The cost is $5 per child per day, and two hours advance notice is requested.

The longevity of this newly introduced program depends on how many families make use of the after-school option.  Multiple children must participate each day to cover the basic costs.  So go ahead and do your grocery shopping, study for that exam, clean the kids’ rooms, schedule appointments, or pamper yourself with a little free time before dinner and bedtime.  Payment is required at the end of each week, and checks should be made out to LCA with “after-school care” noted on the memo line.  Remember parents – let’s use this great perk or we might lose it!

Order forms for Scholastic Books are being sent home with students today.  If you want to order, please return the form with payment by next Friday, September 5.  LCA earns points towards supplies for each book ordered.  As always, parents should use discretion when choosing children’s books from a secular company.

Young people in the Apison church family and community who are home schooled are invited to join the LCA Choir.  Zuzana Rachal (mom of Chelsea and Andrew) directs the group each Thursday at 2 p.m. in the school’s Assembly Room.  Other parents with musical talents are invited to assist during practices as well.
Come blend your voices with ours to make beautiful music and direct praises heavenward.

LCA also extends an invitation for home scholars to be on the call list for field trips and upcoming events.  Just see Mrs. Barto to have your name added to the list.

Please note there is a new yearly fee that the Georgia-Cumberland Conference requires us to collect for Home School Student School Participation Insurance.  The annual amount is $13.25 for each Pre-K and Kindergarten homeschooler and $24 for each homeschooler in grades
1-8 involved in any LCA school activities, including music opportunities and outings.  Who knew choir could be a dangerous activity?  But rules are rules, so please request a form at the school office.

The Barto family will expand once again around Christmas or New Year’s, and it’s another girl!  David breathed a sign of relief during the ultrasound, since he’s grown rather fond of little ladies after 18 months with Aurelia.  Maybe it hasn’t hit home yet that he’s going to be outnumbered 3 to 1!  The new baby’s bones, heart, lungs and brain looked perfect on the scan, but gender confirmation created the most excitement for Leanne.  A name has been chosen and it’s not a secret – Helen Elizabeth, after David’s Grandma Barto.  She’ll be called Eliza.
