All is well at the Barto house with mommy and baby home after only a week in the hospital following Arleigh Montana’s birth on December 27. Minor lung complications due to the three-week-early arrival by c-section were quickly resolved in the Neonatal ICU. Birth weight and length were 8 pounds, 4 ounces and 20.5 inches.
Big sister Aurelia loves the newcomer but doesn’t like to hear her cry. Daddy changed his mind about the name just hours before her birth – ask about the story if you haven’t heard it yet. J Mrs. Barto expects to return to the classroom on March 9.

A week ago Tuesday, Mr. Russell (Zachary and Byron’s grandfather) did a Native American program for us.
He showed us many interesting things and did lots of demonstrations. Mr. Russell, a Cherokee Indian, came dressed in leggings he had made himself. He showed the school Native American tools for hunting. He took us outside and threw the addle-addle spear a long ways. The blowgun was incredible and accurate, too. He played songs on many different native flutes made of river cane. It was very lovely. — written byChelsea Rachel and Byron Russell
On Thursday, a young man by the name of Andrew Mashchak came to show us a wonderful presentation about dry ice. He told us that dry ice is made from compressed carbon dioxide. He did all kinds of cool experiments like making bubbles float and making bubbles filled with carbon. He told us all kinds of interesting things that will benefit our lives. We all enjoyed it very much. — written by Sidney Pitts
