LCA’s annual Family Fair and Expo is just around the corner on Sunday, October 11, from
12 noon to 4 p.m.  The whole community is invited to come join the fun for all ages with carnival games, a stage maze, food, cotton candy, baked treats, fresh apple cider, an inflatable slide and the return of last year’s popular dunking booth!  Admission fees – either cash or boxes of macaroni and cheese – will once again benefit the Samaritan Center.  All other proceeds will go to the school.

A petting zoo and a book sale will be new features at this year’s event.  Quality books promoting Christian values for reading levels Pre-K through 8th grade will be available to purchase just in time for Christmas gifts, and local authors will be on site to tell stories and share autographs. Payment can be made with cash or checks.
Don’t miss the opportunity to fellowship with school families and local community visitors in the school gym and on the ball field.  For more information or to volunteer to help, call Noelle Holland or Tina Smith.

The hours for Administrative Assistant Lisa Jennings (mom of Mary Anne) have changed.  She’s now in the school office each Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 8 to 10 a.m.  Whenever possible, please try to stop in for school business during those hours.  Keep in mind that teachers are required to answer phones and greet visitors when Lisa can’t be at the school, and classroom disruptions should be kept to a minimum.

All completed and signed registration forms need to be turned in to the school office as soon as possible.  Student files must be kept current and up to date for legal as well as administrative purposes, and several LCA students are still missing important papers.  If you have questions, please phone the school office at 236.4926 or see Lisa Jennings.

Extra hands are needed at the school to help answer phones, bind handbooks, sort labels, prepare registration packets and lend assistance with other administrative tasks.  Please call if you have time to help.

STUDENT WRITERS’ CORNER

Week of Prayer was a very fun and inspiring week.  We sang every morning, and then Pastor Greg would preach his fascinating sermons.  He told us very interesting stories and used very cool analogies.  Our subject that week was prayer and the importance of it.  We learned that God loves us very much and wants to talk to us.

One of the favorite things that week was that on Friday there was a guide dog called Penelope.  Although she failed at her job, because all she wanted to do was play with her owner, she still knew lots of cool tricks, and was very obedient.

After worship, the pastor called us one by one and we told him a little about us.  I think he knows us all a little better now.    –- written by

The signs indicating one-way direction and limited speed for the drop-off and pick-up route around the school have been ordered and will be in place in the very near future.

Enrollment numbers jumped again as LCA registered two more students.  Sisters Nadine (2nd grade) and Skylar (4th grade) Pittman boosted total student count to 48 after Labor Day.  The family also donated a wooden loft to Mrs. Byrd’s room that has given the class much-needed extra space for play as well as study.

  • A round of applause goes to Daniel Thomas (dad of Isaac, Amber and Dominic) for creating a windshield ID sign for each school family to help with after-school pickup.
  • Kudos for Pastor Greg Daniel and Beth Scott (mom of Katie) for an inspirational Week of Prayer that blessed the entire student body.
  • Apison SDA Church generously donated monies from its Evangelism Fund to help offset expenses for the Family Fair and Expo, which is specifically designed to reach out the community and help local folks in need through the Samaritan Center.
  • Give a birthday shout-out to Mr. Sargeant. After Thursday, he’s just one year shy of six decades.  Here’s wishing our principal a happy and healthy year!

HOW PARENTS HELP TEACHERS TIP #2

Prepare a happy after-school landing for your kids. Create a predictable ritual such as 15 minutes listening to them talk about their day – before you check messages, read the mail or begin dinner. That way you are fully present, and your child has a touchstone to count on between school and home.  – PTA Parent June 2008

Achievement tests for third- through eighth-graders will begin on Monday, September 28.  Parents are encouraged to make sure students who will be tested get extra rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and pack a healthy snack and lunch.

It’s Box Tops Time in Tennessee! LCA is saving Box Tops for Education with a goal for each classroom to earn $500. Coordinator Beth Scott (mom of Katie) reports that the school is off to a good start with more than $20 in tops to date.  Each child that brings in a filled collection sheet to school by October 15 will receive a prize, and the classroom with the most Box Tops will earn a year-end surprise.  Ask friends, coworkers and extended family to save Box Tops, which equal FREE money for our school.
Go to boxtops4education.com for product lists, coupons and ways to double Box Tops.

Due to excessive rain, Camping Under the Stars for K-2 families was postponed last weekend.  Details including a new date and event schedule will be forthcoming.

This year’s fall field trip for K-8 will be on Tuesday, October 6 (or the 8th in case of rain).  Students will trek through soybean and corn mazes and enjoy a hayride, pumpkin picking, and picnicking along the river at Birchland Ocoee Farms.  Drivers and chaperones are needed.

An all-school field trip to the Atlanta Science Museum and CNN is tentatively set for January 26 or 27 and has been added to the school calendar.
